The Short Version

Most patent attorneys learned science from a textbook. Rami helped put a satellite into orbit.

Before law school, Rami led the team that built the antenna-pattern synthesis software for RADARSAT-2 — Canada’s flagship radar satellite, launched in 2007 and orbiting still. He wrote radar-exploitation software for Defence R&D Canada that became patented defence innovations, with his name on the patents. He published research on neural-network dynamics back when AI was still called mathematics. Those years of graduate research and high-tech industry work built deep engineering expertise — electrical, computer and biomedical — the same expertise he now puts behind every claim he drafts.

Then he crossed over — and spent more than twenty years mastering the other side. Canada’s largest national IP firm. A respected IP boutique in Vancouver. In-house counsel in Ottawa. Dubai, where he co-managed the patent department of a prominent international IP firm across the entire MENA region. Along the way he collected registrations most practitioners stop at one of: patent agent in Canada and the United States, trademark agent in Canada, and lawyer at the Ontario Bar.

In 2021, he put all of it under one name: FILFIL IP. Today the firm is a growing team of IP professionals, paralegals and technical consultants he trusts completely, handling a volume of work that rivals mid-size firms. The premise hasn’t changed: deep expertise, one shared standard, and a principal who is always within reach.

The practice runs the full width of IP: building and structuring global patent, trademark and design portfolios for clients from top-tier multinationals to small and mid-size innovators; contentious and non-contentious trademark matters; administrative patent proceedings and litigation support in pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical patent actions — plus the commercial layer around it all, from licensing and IP transactions to commercial contracts, advertising and labeling.

Recognition

The rankings have noticed. Rami has been ranked a patent star in the IAM Patent 1000 for eight consecutive years (2019–2026) and recognized as a trademark expert in the WTR 1000 every year since 2021 — both respected global guides to the profession’s top practitioners. Few hold both at once.
